Stream donations and taxes in France: the basics

Receiving donations on stream means receiving money, and the tax question comes up quickly. This guide summarises the general principles for streamers in France and links to official sources. It is not personal advice: your exact situation depends on your activity and income.

Prepare your tax return

  1. Review your donations and payouts in your dashboard.
  2. Add up your streaming income by source.
  3. Check your status and obligations on impots.gouv.fr and urssaf.fr.
  4. Ask a professional if your situation is complex.

Is a viewer donation income?

In most cases, yes. Donations received as part of a streaming activity are a return for content you provide, and the tax authorities in France generally treat them as income. Platforms and payment providers may also report amounts received to tax authorities.

Which status should you choose?

An occasional activity and a regular one are not treated the same way. Many streamers with regular income choose the micro-entrepreneur status, registered with URSSAF, which simplifies contributions and declarations. Above certain turnover levels other regimes apply. Thresholds and rates change, so check them every year on official websites.
